When clouds bring rain and rivers flow The farmers know their crops will grow, For water gives them life. The corn swells up, the cattle thrive, The whole of nature is alive, Providing us with food.
When rainfall fails and earth is dry The farmers know their crops will die; No water means no life. The fields are bare, no herds remain, The starving search – but search in vain – For food to stay alive. What can we do for lands where drought Leaves farmers and their stock without The water which is life? By making gifts to Water Aid New wells are dug, new channels laid, And life is brought to birth. So lives are saved when waters flow; As lives are saved when people know The love of God in Christ. Who drinks the water Jesus brings Draws from those never-failing springs And finds eternal life.
