When corn is cut and flour is milled The bread is baked and shelves are filled With loaves of every kind. For bread and Christ, the Bread of heaven, All praise and thanks to God be given – Our lives are in his care.
When fruits are ripe and harvest comes The peaches, apples, grapes and plums Are picked for our delight. We live in Christ, the one true Vine, We share the joys of heavenly wine, The blessings of his love. Such harvests, though, are not for all; When famine strikes its victims call For help in their distress. When we have food (and much to spare) Our Christian duty is to share The bread that God provides. When wealth is shared and trade made fair When aid goes hand in hand with prayer Then God is glorified. Throughout the world his children feed On bread and Christ; their every need Is satisfied in God. William D Horton
