Education Sunday PDF Print E-mail
Education Sunday is an opportunity to focus on the learning and development of the whole people of God. The Church nurtures people of all ages to help them grow, to become God’s people. In many churches there are regular faith-related activities for young people and Education Sunday celebrates that participation by the young people themselves and their leaders.

The world-wide Church is doing significant work in providing schooling for children, training for young people and offering scope for further and higher education. In Britain, several major denominations invest in state schools, in colleges and universities. There are chaplaincies for students and staff. Also, many people are involved in leading school assemblies and supporting faith activities at all levels of education.

There is education and training for people who are called by God for particular ministries: leading worship, preaching and ordained ministry. LWPT plays its part in supporting the continuing development of preachers and leaders of worship through its quarterly magazine Ichthus and this website.

There is growing recognition that learning is life-long. The Church helps new Christians learn more about their faith. There are many house-groups and mid-week meetings that offer Christians opportunities for learning and caring. Churches often host community education for people of all ages. Education Sunday celebrates rather more than the traditional Sunday School.

Worship resources for Education Sunday from the Churches Together in England website, are available here. There are resources here for the current year, and for previous years.
