Much of the material was originally written for a report to Methodist Conference 2007 on Fresh Expressions that was not presented due to lack of business time. That material has been extended into this book.
There are keynote articles by Martyn Atkins ‘Mission-Shaped Thinking’, Martin Wellings ‘A Historical Perspective’ and Tom Stuckey ‘The Time is Short’ and shorter ones from a large variety of people, interspersed with case studies, bible studies and searching questions.
This book can be read by individuals or used by small groups as a study text or discussion starter. The keynote articles stand on their own, are challenging and inspiring and merit careful reading. The book is helpfully divided up into half a dozen sections for extended study. In my circuit it formed the ‘meat’ of a circuit staff and stewards meeting. I think it would be helpful for a preachers’ meeting, study group or church leadership team who wish to explore Fresh Expressions, as well as interested individuals. I enjoyed it and found it clarified several issues for me.
