‘Westerley’ is situated on The Broadway which is the tree-lined road leading through Woodhall Spa, a large, delightful village on the Southern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. It is built in and surrounded by trees, which shelter it from East coast winds. Woodhall Spa is midway between Lincoln, with its lovely old Cathedral, Roman ruins and modern shopping centre, and Boston, an attractive market town. Skegness and the East Coast are only a short journey away. Facilities:
‘Westerley’ was opened by Mutual Aid Homes in 1955 as a Residential Care Home for Elderly People. The Home is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection to provide accommodation and care for 27 residents. There are 25 rooms, five of which are suitable for shared occupation. However, residents are normally accommodated in single rooms and shared rooms are only provided if required for married couples. Residents bedrooms are situated on the ground and first floors, and are served by a passenger lift. A major scheme of modernisation in 1999 gave all rooms en-suite facilities, and a new sun lounge has been constructed overlooking the garden to the rear. Each room is fitted with a call bell to enable residents to summon a member of staff should the need arise and most rooms are equipped to recognised standards for disabled residents. Residents may have their own telephones fitted in their rooms and all rooms are equipped with a TV aerial socket. On the ground floor there is a spacious dining room and two lounges, one of which has television facilities and the other with hi-fi and books. The lounges are fitted with a loop system for the hard of hearing. There are extensive, sheltered gardens, offering the opportunity for relaxation and lawn games. For the keen gardener there is a greenhouse for residents’ use. The establishment has its own 15 seater minibus with tail lift and space to accommodate wheelchairs. Outings are regularly organised for any resident wishing to take part. Regular evening entertainments are also held in the Home. The Home and village are situated on level ground, ideal for elderly people. There are two battery-operated scooters for those residents who find walking difficult. The Home is close to the local Methodist Church, which has small but newly refurbished buildings, modern seating and a loop system. Westerley has a very close relationship with the local church and has considerable involvement in its life.
