’Westerley’ is situated just off the main road which runs into the town centre which is about half a mile away.
The house stands in a prominent position with views of the beautiful Quantock Hills from the front and North Hill from the side and rear. The home is in a level position, about 10 minutes walk from the sea. The town is served by bus services offering good connections with Taunton Rail Station and other towns and villages in the West Country.
Facilities:
Westerley was formerly a hotel until purchased by Mutual Aid Homes and opened on 24th May, 1957 as a Residential Care Home for elderly people. The Home is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection to provide accommodation for 27 residents. There are 25 rooms available for residents, two of which are suitable for shared occupation, if required, by a married couple. Otherwise all residents are invariably accommodated in single rooms. Residents’ bedrooms are situated on the ground and first floors, those on the first floor being served by a passenger lift. A recent conversion of previous staff accommodation on the ground floor has given four new ensuite rooms appointed to the best contemporary standards and ideally suited for disabled residents. All rooms have ensuite facilities, except for one, reserved for short term residence, respite care, or convalescence, where there is an adjacent bathroom and toilet. On the ground floor there is a large lounge, with deep windows overlooking the garden, a writing or reading room and a spacious dining room.
There is an extensive prize-winning garden, greatly appreciated by the residents and visitors to the Home and the town. It offers opportunities for relaxation and lawn games. The garden has recently been enhanced by a water feature, which adds to the peace and tranquillity of the surroundings. The summer house is a much used facility during the warmer months. Outings over the surrounding Exmoor and the Quantock Hills are regularly organised during the summer, and evening entertainments are also held in the Home, especially during the winter months.
The Home is situated on level ground, which is ideal for elderly people. There is a large garage and adequate car parking facilities.
